Other : SPOT FIXING in IPL!

DELHI : The special cell of Delhi police on early Thursday morning (2.30 AM) arrested three players of Rajasthan Royals, a cricket team participating in Indian Premiere League (IPL), over the allegations of spot fixing in the IPL matches.
S. Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila along with five other bookies were arrested by the special cell of Delhi police.
Chavan and Chandila were arrested from Trident Hotel, were taken to Marine Drive police station. In a secret operation carried out late night, the police officers sneaked in to Trident Hotel bypassing all the security arrangements. While Sreesanth was arrested from a friend’s house. The cases under section 420 and 120 (b) have been registered against players.
The Mumbai police on Tuesday night had arrested Ramesh Vyas, along with two other bookies from South Mumbai. According to police officials, Vyas was working as a middleman between the bookies from Pakistan and India and had found phone records showing that 30 calls were made to Pakistan.
According to sources, the arrested bookies provided vital information about the spot-fixing scandal in IPL, with the help of which action against players was taken. It is also learned that the police have the names of other players as well, including some foreign players, and more arrests are likely. The matches under scanner include Wednesday’s match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, along with 10 other matches.
Though police officers have refused to make any official comment, it is learned that all three players will be taken to Delhi by Afternoon and will be produced in the court there.
Owner of Rajasthan Royals, Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty have said that the management will help police authorities in probe. Kundra tweeted early morning saying, team cannot be fixed, but individual players who lack integrity can be fixed.
PTI adds:

The players are likely to be suspended from the IPL and an official from the BCCI will make a formal announcement soon. The matter will be referred to the Disciplinary Committee of the BCCI headed by Arun Jaitley.

Investigators said besides telephone records, they also have evidences of messages passed through BBM and Whatsapp.
The police have also arrested seven bookies in Mumbai and three bookies in Delhi in connection with the same case. They are looking for two more bookies in Delhi.

Rajasthan Royals issued a statement in which they said that they are shocked by the development.

“We have been informed that three of our players have been called in for investigation on spot fixing in matches. We are completely taken by surprise. We do not have the full facts at this point and are unable to confirm anything.
“We are in touch with the BCCI on this matter. We will fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation. The management at Rajasthan Royals has a zero-tolerance approach to anything that is against the spirit of the game,” the statement said.

We have got to pull up our socks, says Virat Kohli

"We have to look at the last game against Punjab and try to improve our bowling at the death," he said."Bowling was a bit of a concern last year as well. This year the team thought of picking up more options, but the guys haven't been able to execute in last few overs." he added."We have got to pull up our socks and go out to win the last game. We need a good bowling performance because the batting has been really consistent in the tournament," Kohli told reporters in the post-match press conference.

Virat misses a WELL DESERVED Century!

My beard is already greying, says Virat Kohli after last-over victory against DD.

New Delhi : The Royal Challengers Bangalore rode on a brilliantly crafted knock by skipper Virat Kohli to sneak past a spirited Delhi Daredevils by four runs at the Kotla in Delhi in an IPL6 match on Friday. Delhi’s reply of 179/7 saw the visitors seal an important win in their quest for a play-offs spot and put them on par with Mumbai Indians at 16 points apiece in the points table.

Kohli’s 99 off 58, his last 49 coming from just 14 balls, gave the hosts an imposing target to achieve as RCB finished at 183/4 from their 20 overs. Delhi making a fight of it on a pitch which has been of a low scoring nature hinged largely on their star batsman. But yet again, as has been the trend this season, they failed to deliver.

RCB pacer Jayadev Unadkat chose to share the limelight with his skipper Kohli, returning with an impressive haul of 5/25, including the top three Delhi batsmen.

With Mahela Jaywardene, Virender Sehwag and skipper David Warner back in the dug-out by the seventh over, with 60 on board, the contest was very much in RCB’s grasp.

Youngster Unmukt Chand chose to play out to register his best score of the season (44) but never looked threatening to take his team close to the target. However, Delhi tailenders Irfan Pathan ( 23 off 11) and Morne Morkel (19 off 10), towards the end, gave RCB some nervous moments bringing the equation down to 19 off the last six balls, which proved five runs off the target for the hosts.

Earlier, Kohli scored a whirlwind 99 off 58 balls as Bangalore posted 183 for four in 20 overs.

Daredevils got the kind of start they needed under the new skipper David Warner — the first over by Morne Morkel costing them only a single but more importantly, the second one, bringing the end of a dangerous Chris Gayle cheaply. After

defending an Irfan Pathan delivery on the backfoot which raced away to the long on boundary, Gayle chased the next one outside the off, pulling it back onto his stumps.

Morkel induced an edge off Kohli's bat in the next over but the delivery was declared a no ball by the umpire. The RCB skipper was to get another life in the seventh over, dropped by Virender Sehwag off Siddarth Kaul at short midwicket, denying the youngster his second wicket in the match. And Kohli made Delhi pay with a brilliantly placed innings of 99 from 58 balls including ten boundaries and four sixes.

Kohli’s partner Cheteshwar Pujara, at the other end, began slowly, even escaping a caught behind in the third over, but his urge to force the pace of the game brought his downfall in the fifth over, bowled by Kaul, as RCB finished the powerplay at 40/2.

After Pujara’s departure, the Kohli-Moises Henriques combine showed discipline in constructing a partnership.

Kohli, however, missed a deserving century getting run out for 99 in the final delivery of the innings."I thought I was gone, until I saw the umpire's arm. It was my lucky day but yet another nerve-wracking finish for us," he added.

I Enjoy captaincy : Virat Kohli

BANGALORE: New Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli said on Wednesday that the challenge of his new role excited him and singled out former captain Anil Kumble for instilling in him the traits required for the task.

"This time, captaincy is a full time thing. Getting together the team composition is pretty exciting to be honest. It's not something I take as a pressure thing, but it's something that I enjoy and I'm honoured to captain players who have been playing for over 20 years," he said. The youngster said giving 100% on the field was something he had picked up from Kumble, interestingly Mumbai Indians' chief mentor for the current season.

"One thing he believed was in giving it all on the field. And that's something I believe in as well. He always had great faith in players and kept pushing players to perform really well. If he saw the players were down, he would pull the team load all by himself. That was something that was striking about his captaincy and that's something I will like to inculcate in our team as well," he said.

RCB's decision to pick up a number of pacers in the last auction has not gone unnoticed and Kohli justified the decision saying the Bangalore track had always supported bowlers in the first six overs. "It has not been a flat wicket; we all know that. The ball does seam around. Two years back we had lots of bowling options but last year we didn't because not everyone was fit and it didn't work out well for us. So this year I insisted that we have lots of bowling options," he said.

Earlier, MI skipper Ricky Ponting said that finding a replacement for the injured Lasith Malinga was not the top of his priorities thanks to the wealth of talent at his disposal. "We haven't decided on our final playing eleven yet. We've got to look at what the weather conditions are going to be like tomorrow afternoon and what the pitch is going to be like," he said, referring to Tuesday night's thunderstorm and the prospect of rain again on the morrow.
